PHILIPPI TOUR: WHERE HISTORY MEETS FAITH
Created by King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, who gave his name to the city, Philippi was one of the most important cities in this corner of the vast Roman Empire. It makes sense why Paul decided to visit Philippi and begin his second missionary journey from here.
It is here where he baptised the first European Christians and created the very first European Christian church and the epistoles “To Philippians” remain as a testament to that.
In this Philippi Tour we are going to visit the archaeological site of Philippi, learning about the history of the city but also Paul’s journey. We are going to visit Paul’s prison as well as some of the most important parts of this ancient place, like the forum and a couple of magnificent basilicas.
Then, we will visit the baptistry of Lydia and see the river in which Paul performed the first baptisms on European grounds. The tour will be completed with a visit in the nearby city of Kavala, or Neapolis as it was called during Paul’s time, and some lunch before heading back to Thessaloniki.
